Google Hangouts is a communication software developed by Google. Anyone with a Gmail account has access and can start using Google Hangouts today. Google Hangouts allows it’s users to chat, audio call and video call for free.

How To Use Google Hangouts

1. Prerequisites

The only prerequisite to using Google Hangouts is to have a Gmail account. If you do not have a Gmail account click here to sign up. It takes less than five minutes.

2. Locate Hangouts

Once your account is created go to the homepage of your Gmail. Look to the top right corner of your screen and click on the dots in a square formation. This will open up a menu of various Google products. Scroll down.

 

Scroll down the menu until you see the green circle that says Hangouts. Click on it.

 

This will bring you to the homepage of Google Hangouts. Here you have the options to chat, call, and to video call. Click on the chat icon on the right to chat.

3. Chat, Call, Video Call

Start typing a contacts name, email or phone number or select a contact from the list below.

 

After clicking on the contact, Google Hangouts will open a window on the right to begin the chat. Simply type your message and press Enter to send.

 

Go back to the Google Hangouts homepage in order to select another form of communication. To call select the phone icon in the middle. A window with a list of contact will appear. Choose one of these contacts to call.

You can also click New Conversation and add a number you would like to call.

 

To video call click on the camera icon on the left. This will open up a separate tab. It will bring you to a screen where you can invite people. You can either type out their name or invite them by sending them a link.

They will also need to have a Gmail account to join the call.

If they would like to join the call on their phone they would also need to download the Google Hangouts app.
