What Is Cisco WebEx?

Cisco WebEx is one of the older players in the video conferencing realm. WebEx keeps teams connected with video meetings, team messaging and file sharing. WebEx supports everyone, from large corporations to small businesses.

With WebEx, your team will be able to keep in touch with video conferencing. With screen sharing capabilities, HD video, and meeting recording, WebEx makes it easy to host and participate in meetings anytime and anywhere.

WebEx is truly an all in one communication platform. It offers training in order to educate, present and instruct using a digital whiteboard. It even allows the trainees to record presentations for later use. The ability to charge for training sessions with eCommerce capabilities is also built-in.

Webinar type events are also possible with Webex. You are able to host up to 3,000 attendees and use features such as Q&As, polling and messaging.

How Much Does WebEx Cost?

WebEx is actually free. Well, at least the most basic version is. However, in the last few years, WebEx has beefed up their free version. WebEx used to only allow up to 50 video call participants for the free version and now it supports up to 100 people. WebEx has also upped its time restriction from 40 minutes a call to unlimited. There are three more plans Webex offers that include more storage space, the ability to alternate hosts, customizable WebEx site URLs, additional customer support and of course the ability to support more participants in a meeting.


How To Schedule A Meeting With Cisco WebEx

1. Sign Up

First, you need to sign up if you have not done so already. It is free to sign up and there is no credit card required.

After signing up visit the homepage of your WebEx portal.

2. Set Up Your Meeting

You will have two options to Start A Meeting right now or to Schedule a meeting.

We are going to schedule a meeting so click the Schedule button on the right.


You will be taken to a screen where you can set up your meeting settings. Amongst other things you can name your meeting, set up the day and time of the meeting, as well as add the attendees to the meeting. WebEx will also automatically generate you a password your attendees will need to use to join the meeting.


Choose your own date and time by clicking on the drop-down arrow next to the given date. Click Show Advanced Options.


Click Scheduling Options and select any appropriate fields for your meeting. Also if needed click to edit meeting and attendee options.


When finished press the Schedule.


3. Your First Meeting

The attendees that you added to the meeting will be sent an email with the meeting link, meeting number and password if needed. When it is time to start the meeting click on the down arrow next to start meeting. This will allow you to choose whether you want to use the desktop app or the website app. In my opinion, just using the web app simplifies things.
